Mushroom picking and visiting natural monuments are among the most sought-after activities. For cycling, Lipno offers very favorable conditions. A multitude of marked cycle routes leads you to the best sights and monuments in the area. The new lake cycle path leads directly around the lake. From Frymburk, you can make a pleasant round trip around the dam and return by ferry in one day.
Schwarzenberg Navigation Canal
The largest technical monument of the Bohemian Forest. It starts near the monument of the Rosenauer tank, which today, unfortunately, has a broken dam. It flows into the river Große Mühl in Austria, thus connecting the catchment areas of the Vltava and the Danube. Originally, the canal was designed for the transportation of log wood from inaccessible parts of the Bohemian Forest to Vienna. Later, it was adapted to transport logs up to 24 m long. The length of the canal itself is 44 km. It was fed with water from 27 streams, 3 reservoirs, and the Plešné Lake.
Plešné Lake and Plechý
The Plešné Lake is located on the slope of the Plechý Mountain (1378 m) at an altitude of 1089 m, about 17 km south of Volary. It is of glacial origin. On the slope above the lake, along the route of the yellow tourist path, stands a monument to the writer Adalbert Stifter. At the northern edge of the lake, there is a stone sea formed from blocks of coarse-grained granite.
Moldaublick Observation Tower
The Moldaublick or Moldau View observation tower is an observation tower on the northeastern slope of the Austrian mountain Sulzberg (1041 m), 1 km from the Austrian-Czech state border at Hinter Zvonková. It is located in the Austrian part of the Bohemian Forest and offers a view of the Czech side - on the Lipno reservoir and the surroundings (Horní Planá, Černá v Pošumaví, Vítkův Kamen, Hochficht, Sternstein) and on further distances like Boubín or Kleť. The metal tower was built in 1967, is 24 m high and has 137 steps. It is open from April to November. Tourist and ski routes lead to the tower, which connects it with other tourist places in the vicinity - Schwarzenberg Navigation Canal, Bärenstein, and Plechý.
Alpenblick Observation Tower
On the southern slope of the mountain Sulzberg at the Bohemian Forest crest, at an altitude of 1000 m, majestically stands the 33 m high Alpenblick observation tower including the roof. It was built exclusively by the company Brüder Resch from local spruces and represents a master achievement of modern wooden architecture. From the viewpoint, only 4 km away from the border crossing Hinter Zvonková – Schöneben, you enjoy a magnificent view of the surroundings in all directions: towards the south into the deep valley of the river Große Mühl, the Bohemian Forest massif and further into nearby Bavaria; in favorable weather and good visibility, the extensive Alpine massif with the dominant peak Dachstein unfolds on the horizon. The observation tower is easily accessible on foot, by bicycle, or by car (free parking).
Sightseeing Boat Trips
Discover the natural beauty of the Bohemian Forest and the Lipno Lake from the deck of a boat. The excursion boats depart from the docks of Lipno nad Vltavou and Frymburk. During the small or large circular trip, you will also learn many interesting facts about the lake and its peculiarities. Evening cruises at sunset with music, dinner, and a toast are organized on the new excursion boat Adalbert Stifter. You can also taste the specialties of the onboard restaurant.
Canoeing and Rafting on the Vltava
A beautiful river winding through the Šumava forests. Along its entire course, there are campsites and dozens of restaurants and refreshments. A unique experience is then seeing Český Krumlov from the river surface. The starting stations for descending the river are either in the upper part of the flow at Soumarský Most or a bit lower, just below Lipno, in Vyšší Brod. Canoes, rafts, and all equipment can be rented at many of the Lipno rental shops.
The Town of Vyšší Brod
The town of Vyšší Brod is definitely worth a visit. Your attention should not miss the Vyšší Brod Monastery, the library in the monastery, which counts over 70,000 volumes, the postal museum, and of course, the natural monument Čertova stěna and Luč along the way.
Rožmberk
Rožmberk lies in a picturesque Vltava valley, 10 km from the Austrian border and 25 km from Český Krumlov. Rožmberk Castle, dating from the mid-13th century, is among the oldest castles of the Vítkovci, predecessors of one of the most significant Czech noble families - the Rožmberks. The untouched nature, the beautiful passage of the Vltava river, and the historical setting of the village are major attractions for tourists worldwide. Nearby is also the natural reserve Dolní Jílovice with remnants of a natural beech-fir forest.
Český Krumlov
A historical and enchanting town that offers other cultural gems besides the castle and chateau, such as the revolving theatre, the wax museum, and the Egon Schiele Art Centre. The town of Český Krumlov is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Adalbert Stifter Museum
The Adalbert Stifter monument is located in the writer's birth house. The cottage is registered in the list of state-protected monuments. The ground floor of the building is used for the permanent memorial exposition 'Adalbert Stifter and his native land', and the other spaces of the building are used for permanent exhibitions.
Frymburk Museum
The mission of the Frymburk Museum is the collection of historical items and artifacts from the territory of the former parish of Frymburk, including 12 surrounding villages and settlements. Together with the museum, the voluntary organization Frymburk Museum and Local History Society was also established. Both organizations systematically deal with the collection, professional care, and presentation of all things interesting, including exhibits practically lost under the water of the nearby Lipno Dam. The exhibition space is located on the ground floor.
Lake Viewpoint Horní Planá
A wooden lookout tower about half a kilometer from Horní Planá stands at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level. That it is a mini lookout tower is proven by its dimensions - it is a total of 9 meters high and the lookout platform at a height of 5 meters is accessed by only 21 steps. To the south, you will see the surface of the Lipno Dam reservoir and beyond it Vítkův Kámen and the rising Šumava ridge with peaks Smrčina, Hraničník, Studničná and with its 1378 meters also the highest peak of Šumava on the Czech side, the mountain Plechý. Above the town rises the hill Dobrá voda with the 'miraculous' spring and the pilgrimage church of Our Lady of Sorrows.
Lookout Tower Dobrá Voda in Horní Planá
The iron lookout tower is 36 meters high and was built as part of the gradual renewal of the Stifter Park. Its shape is meant to symbolize the glass-making history of the area. The lookout tower has two floors, the upper at a height of 32 meters and the lower at a height of 26 meters.
